Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Principal Receptionist/Patient Scheduler in the Eric B. Chandler Health Center within Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Patient Business/Patient Scheduler, under general supervision, is responsible for answering phones and routing calls, scheduling appointments, greeting and registering patients. Responds to requests and questions from hospitals, patients and referring physician offices. Assists with billing activities. Provides general office support.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Greets and directs patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner to appropriate areas at the Eric B. Chandler Health Center.
Answers/screens telephone calls, makes calls, and takes messages.
Schedules and maintains appointments through the Practice Management scheduling (IDX) program. Assures appointment scheduling is completed in accordance with the criteria of the practice. Acts as a liaison in scheduling patients from Robert Wood Johnson University (RWJUH) for appointments at the Health Center.
Utilizes computer to process full registration information for new/established patients at every visit. Completes new/established patients demographics, emergency contact and insurance information in the Program Management System. Ensures referral is verified where appropriate. All collected information along with required forms will be scanned in the EMR (Electronic Medical Record).
Responsible for generating new schedules or daily reports.
Assists with cash collections/reconciliation.
Provides back-up coverage for Patient Business Services staff.

Minimum Education and Experience
Two (2) years of progressively responsible Clerical and Administrative/general experience, preferably in a physician, hospital or health center setting including receptionist and scheduling duties.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Computer skills and excellent customer service skills.
Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.
Demonstrated ability to verbally communicate effectively with patient population and faculty staff.
Working with office equipment and confidential patient records and correspondence.
Proofread and check documents for accuracy.
Ability to multi-task.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a medical office setting, including some billing.
