Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Staff Assistant for the Center for Tobacco Studies. Under the direction of the Chief of Staff, the Staff Assistant performs a wide variety of administrative and support services. Assists in the planning and support of program activities and coordinates office operations.
Among the key duties of this position are the following;
Responsible for providing administrative, analytical, computing and staff support for the department.
Executes assignments and tasks requiring data collection, information gathering, analysis, data entry/retrieval, database maintenance, and forms and graphics generation utilizing a variety of software packages.
Screens calls and provides information in accordance with organizational policy.
Receives and appropriately handles incoming correspondence, makes appointments, schedules meetings, and responds to inquiries.
Secures conference room space and audio-visual equipment for meetings.
Develops and implements controls for work assignments under the direction of the IT team leader.
Maintains essential records and assists in the maintenance of all activity files.

Minimum Education and Experience
Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts, Public or Business Administration, the Social Sciences or a related field, plus one (1) year of professional level experience in a business office, government agency, or university setting.
Equivalent experience, education and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems Management or Information Technology, Engineering or Business Administration, and one (1) year of experience in support of desktop computers, network devices and servers.
Experience with data analysis applications.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Must be able to lift and exert force up to 35 pounds.
